Anthea Boylston of the University of Bradford discusses the Towton Mass Grave Project - in 1996 a mass burial pit was discovered at the site of the Battle of Towton, a major battle fought in 1461 during England's War of the Roses. The mass grave contained the bodies of 41 people, and Boyston and other researchers were able to use forensic anthropological techniques for identify and record the injuries of these individuals. As one of the very few mass graves discovered on a medieval battlefield, the research collected from this project has proven to be extremely valuable to historians. We visit the abandoned Old Stone Church, on the Wachusett Resovoir, West Boylston, Massachusetts. When three towns lost land to create this man-made drinking water supply, a lot of buildings, roads, and nature, were removed to make way for it. One building survived the wrecking ball, and that was the Old Stone Church, abandoned when the project began. The abandoned building is maintained by the DCR (Massachusetts Department of Conservation, and Recreation), which allows people to go inside, and have a look. First thing you'll see is, there's nothing really left, and the lower level was removed, and filled in with dirt, and newer construction from 1977 is prevelent (steel beams, and concrete blocks), to stablize the hollowed-out structure. The concrete block walls reinforce the ones that fell in during restoration (and rebuilt seamlessly), and a historically-accurate replacement roof put on. This is a little video that I made a few weeks ago at the MBTA Green Line Boylston Station in Downtown Boston, Massachusetts. The streetcars behind the fence in this video are: PCC car 3295, built in 1951, and Boston Type 5 car 5734(leased from the Seashore Trolley Museum in Maine), built in 1924. This was the first subway station to open in Boston and it remains in largely original condition-configuration. Today, the MBTA Green Line uses two types of cars, which both are seen in this video.
