Nov 1, 2011 - These keynotes seem to become more professional each year, I really hope Ubuntu and Canonical continue to do well and focus on the long term.

Nov 1, 2011 - If Linux is to have a chance to become a real option as an OS, there needs to a distro for which new users will NEVER read help that starts with "Go the Terminal and type ... " Ease of use from the point of view of a new computer user is paramount. Instructions for fixing 99% of what will go wrong with a Mac, for example will fix on one side of a sheet of paper. Linux users need to be able to make the same boast.

Nov 1, 2011 - Great presentation. Looks good to see Ubuntu growing. Jumped on the boat on Ubuntu 10.04. Now happily running 11.10, still one of my favorite Ubuntu releases to date. Really great improvements on Unity. :D

Nov 1, 2011 - i challenge you to find if there is the word "linux" anywhere inside ubuntu's main site

Nov 2, 2011 - It's in small print - but it's in a lot of places. It's particularly more prominent in the business section. The sad truth is that Linux has earned a bad rep over the last decade - so they're trying to avoid putting people off of trying Ubuntu/Linux and open source software by leaving out the word 'Linux' until the user has tried it and discovered they like it. That way if they love it then they can say they love Linux. It's hard to avoid the word if you're using the OS.

Nov 2, 2011 - No different than not seeing the word "Unix" anywhere on a Mac webpage. I agree though, Linux has earned a bad rap. Not undeservedly so though. It's not the easiest to work with, and you have to be willing to get down and dirty a bit to work with it. Ubuntu does rock though, and the many derivatives. (I use Mint Gnome).

Nov 2, 2011 - Fuck Steve Jobs. I like Mark Shuttleworth! Mark is the one who's been in space.

Nov 2, 2011 - Why did Linux have a bad name? I mean, at my internshit, if it wasn't for certain things like Exchange, all of our servers (even domain controllers) would be running Linux. Also, Linux runs on almost every device including your Android smartphone. I don't see why Linux would have a bad name.

Nov 14, 2011 - A while ago a lot of people tried linux before it had any drivers or fancy GUI's or any codecs. It wasn't up to par with windows at the time - in fact it paled in comparison. When it was presented to these folks it was presented as 'linux' and not as the distribution. Most people considered it terrifying to have to go into the command line to install everything and the constant breaking gave people headaches. When those people see 'linux' now they instantly remember that experience :(

Mar 30, 2012 - The best way to work with packages is either via the terminal or the Synaptic Package Manager. Ubuntu Software Center sucks omho for it doesn't give you enough information (no information at all actually only the installation progress) about what's going on behind the curtain. Removing SPM as a default package manager is a mistake. If it disappears from the repositories, this will be one more good reason to leave the Ubuntu world. As for the Unity - boy, I wouldn't use it even if I get paid.

Apr 28, 2012 - In 12.04 the ATI drivers still aren't working properly... This is basic stuff and it still is a pain in the butt for those of us who need to make that work before we can do anything else with the OS. Still screwed up, though. :) JC

May 2, 2012 - Every time I want to access System Settings, I accidentally open the user menu. Great usability -- NOT. And why do I have to TYPE shit into the dash or the HUD for every little thing? I want to use my MOUSE. I don't want to put my hands on the keyboard.
