May 26, 2012 - how about the scene at 6:34 the soldiers kicking it smoking on a tank and in an instant they are vaporized even before the explsion. Not even a thought no time to react. The tank a nice dark green is turned bleach white before exploding.. very powerful images too bad during the cold war this could have been our reality.

May 26, 2012 - The military mindset doesn't make sense until you realize that it, like diplomacy, are tools of the state (and hopefully tools of the people). The military was many roles, but mostly it is just the ability to quickly react to disastrous scenarios in coordinated ways, using force if necessary. A purely military state doesn't make sense, but neither does a state where there isn't a corps of individuals whose sole purpose is to protect the people, occasionally through violent means.
