May 1, 2012 - Wow, as much as they were ranting about how you can't hear a difference in their dither...I guessed right on all of them which was which. So now I'm convinced about dither for sure. The last one was more difficult but I think he used a lesser dither on the third which made it sound closer to the w/o dither. Also, if anyone has ever used Izotope Ozone, then you already know how different those dithers themselves sound different from each other. All to taste. But that pow-r3 did sound good.

May 24, 2012 - I think the phase shift test might be audible on headphones, though I have to admit it's really subtle (has to be in direct comparison) and the amount of phase shift you add is ridiculous (and much less than the phase shift you'd get just from room acoustics anyways), and it has to be on really percussive sounds (not gonna hear that on a cello of course). Or maybe I'm just falling in same confirmation bias.

boptillyouflop mowi:

May 24, 2012 - Hmm, just tested it with reaEQ, if you apply totally crazy phase shift (used 48 bands) but then reverse the audio clip, apply a similar brain dead phase shift but with all the frequencies shifted around a bit, then reverse again, the audio sounds ok again. So the real problem is not phase shift as much as applying so much of it that you're essentially desynchronizing the bass from the highs... wicked!
