Jan 3, 2011 - Someone finally brought this one back! Another frequently played track that just dropped off never to be heard again after about a year. I could have sworn that there was originally a straight-vocal (non-vocoder) version as well. Sounded so much like Stevie from the same period (That Girl, etc). I probably thought it was him at first.

Jan 3, 2011 - Thanks for the comment! This is a typical "don't-judge-the-LP-by the cover". Bill was a fonkay dude!

Jan 4, 2011 - Do you have any idea if there was a regular vocal version? (Maybe one of the other tracks on the album?)

Jan 4, 2011 - It's not on the LP, and as I check on discogs (a great site for discographies) I see that this song was issued as a 12" single. Maybe some of those releases had a different version than the one listed on the discogs site. In any case, I don't have it. :)

Jan 6, 2011 - I saw the 12'' single at discogs, and the only other track was "So Shy", so maybe I just thought I heard a regular vocal verion. Like maybe the first time I heard it, I didn't realize it was a vocoder sound; maybe there was a lot of noise where I was, etc. Unless there sould have been a special radio edit single or something. But who knows..

Jan 6, 2011 - Who knows! Stranger things have happened! Maybe a pre-release? Maybe a promo release? Until we find Mr. Wolfer and can ask him, it is a mystery. Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it.

Jun 2, 2011 - Wolfer was a session dude for Wonder and the Jacksons, who repaid the favor with their help on this album. There was always a vocoder on this, that's part of the magic...maybe it was the drugs you were on.

Jun 3, 2011 - No drugs for me. Though it was the age when "everyone was doing it". What I think, is that since I had just gotten so into Stevie (from that summer's smash hit Do I Do, and That Girl before it, that I thought they would be part of a new studio album, and anticipated new songs from him. So this one sounded a lot like him, (as did Donald Fagen's IGY from around the same time, esp. with the harmonica), and so I thought I remembered him singing on it.

Apr 10, 2012 - Trying to make out as many words as I can. More keep coming to me as I listen more and more. Have to go over the second verse when I get more time. (Should have asked if the lyrics are on the LP). Obviously one of those "pep talk" songs common back then (Like Herbie Hancock's "Stars in Your Eyes" Steve Arrington's "Nobody Can Be You But You" or Lionel Richie's "Love Will Find A Way"). To be a teenager during this time, and hearing those same kind of lectures from my father, counselors, etc.
