May 21, 2008 - Metrolink bought 4 F40PHs from Amtrak, & 4 SD50s from UP. They wanted to put the SD50 prime mover into the F40PH car body & have a 3500hp passenger loco. They didn't really put much effort into it, & tried to make the SD50s work as passenger locos. Both failed, the SD50s were sold off, & 3 F40PHs are used for parts to this one good one running. They're so loud b/c the prime mover has to be in run 8 to supply HEP to the cars through an static inverter, which chops the hp to 2300.
