Apr 23, 2012 - Today is St Goorge's day and I have invited some frends round for a party where we will enjoy food and drink and celebrate England's great literary heritage by reading our favourite English poets. Its Shakespeare's birthday too. I have just put up a large St George's flag outside my house. I was a bit worried about this as, yes, we so have some tattooed thugs who misuse nationalism. I'm not going to let them rob me of my nationalism. IMO Steve Knightley gets the balance right in this song,

I have a collection from a decade ago, I am sure this somg will be in a more recent colelction. He is a very likeable man, I spoke to him once at a concert and asked if he minded people like me singing his songs in folk clubs. He said, no, that's why I write them. This song is about valuing your heritage and in particular losing the gift of traditional folk song.
