Apr 9, 2011 - Hey, I used to be such an audiophile but I've been distracted from it for a long time. What FLAC? New type of format? I kinda lost interest when everyone seemed "happy" with mp3. (Hate the squigley sounds and the lack of ambience). Thanks in advance for any positive response. MUSIC... the true universal language.

Apr 9, 2011 - Sure, FLAC is Fully Lossless Audio Codec. The codec comes with Linux as it is open source. Trent Reznor of NIN releases many of his free albums on FLAC as it compresses the music to 50 - 60% and is an exact duplicate of the original source if an artist releases their music directly to FLAC format the sound you hear is exactly like the original studio master recording. Winamp, VLC and Traktor all play FLAC. iTunes will with a 3rd party plug in. FLAC is a good alternative to WAV.
