Mar 12, 2011 - It's great that an Amtrak F40 is saved and preserved but they had to pick the strangest looking one? The ditch lights sticking out and the reversed colored number boards is weird looking.

Mar 14, 2011 - Very cool video! I would like to see that one day!

CoasterFan2105 mowi:

Mar 15, 2011 - Yeah, just wish it ran more often!

Apr 3, 2011 - ... I'm gonna make myself sound old, but while you remember the F40 units when you were a kid, I remember the E and F units when I was a kid... head end power for the Santa Fe Chiefs and the Texas & Pacific/Missouri Pacific Eagles. I do think the F40s are a more striking engine.

EMDSD14R mowi:

Apr 4, 2011 - nothing wrong with tht...E/f's are some of my favorites..amtrak had alot of those E/F's..my dad might have seen them since he grew up with the GG1's on the harrisburg line..but i know the sound of those older e/f units..the ex conrail E units run on the on the Harrisburg line a good bit..i've see them at night up close and know the rumble of the 567 not just by hearing it but feeling it in my chest which is something so i know exactly what u mean..great units to see/good memories

EMDSD14R mowi:

Apr 4, 2011 - but u are right the F 40's are a striking engine to see...i have several in my collection...i don't think this is correct but one of my f 40's is in the phase one paint..i don't think they came in phase one..i know the SDP40f's did but i am not sure of the f 40's...it would be nice to see Amtrak heritage painted F units in the Phase one scheme which would be sweet...i don't have any amtrak E/Funits yet..but i plain to get some..most likely the FL9's they had..they were sweet units

Apr 7, 2011 - are they still over there?

CoasterFan2105 mowi:

Apr 29, 2011 - No, moved into the old SP Shops

Jun 11, 2011 - i`m surprised it did not get converted into a cabbage unit

Jun 25, 2011 - Unlike MOST of you I like the GE Product. I tell you what though why won't MP develope a long haul passenger road diesal... seems all they can come up with is this commuter crap.

CoasterFan2105 mowi:

Jun 25, 2011 - Because no one has requested one yet...There are only a handful of railroads that would want a long haul passenger loco

badboymrpappy mowi:

Jun 25, 2011 - But compared the the so called "mechanical issues" revolving around the GE P40 and P42 product, Motive Power should be jumping in to meet the demand being that EMD won't develope anything

CoasterFan2105 mowi:

Jun 25, 2011 - Actually, EMD is opening a plant in the US so it can begin to make passenger locomotives that meet the "made in america" requirement that goes along with some of the federal grants. True, there's nothing yet, but keep an eye out. I bet you'll see something in the next few years.

Aug 7, 2011 - Thank you!

Sep 24, 2011 - The F40PH at the museum has actually been used. They've used it to move tailgate and other locomotives to nearby museums and special displays near Sacramento. This F40 isn't dead, it's being used. What sucks though is it hasn't been repainted. I saw it when I was little, probably about 10 years ago. That's the last time I saw it.

TFN5459 mowi:

Dec 14, 2011 - Well down where I live in the SF Bay Area Caltrain(JPBX) which runs the former SP San Jose - San Francisco Commuter Route and the Altamont Commuter Express(ACE) still run a lot of F40PH and the dash 2 and Dash 3 Variations in commuter, between both 28 of them, though most have been rebuilt with Cat engines or were built by MPI. The Union Pacific 4466 is not likely to run again due to boiler problems and a law about burning coal in California unless they convert her to oil

Jan 20, 2012 - whats up with the audio? it just keeps repeating...

Interestingenough4 mowi:

Feb 3, 2012 - Why were the F40PHs retired?

CoasterFan2105 mowi:

Feb 11, 2012 - Newer technology, etc. Some of them were getting pretty old by the time they were retired. On the other hand, some were only about 10 to 15 yrs old.

CoasterFan2105 mowi:

Feb 11, 2012 - That is correct. Because the original audio track was bad. You didn't miss much.

tommy4trains mowi:

May 1, 2012 - i think i also saw on another video that theres another amtrak F40 unit on display in the north carolina transpotation museum in spencer NC its in there yard

CoasterFan2105 mowi:

May 1, 2012 - That is correct, # 307

venom342526 mowi:

May 9, 2012 - Why don't they use F40's of those engines anymore, because now they have Surfliners. I just found out they used those before the Surfliners.
