Aug 9, 2011 - In thinking about what you're saying, I agree that funk is just a totally different style and feel than jazz. It just does not swing like jazz. Now IF contemporary jazz musicians are still improvising over melodies, I suppose it still falls in the category of jazz - not sure what the masters would say - but I am just not into the "funkification" of jazz standards. Wayyy too cheesy for me - I didn't feel that way 15 years ago. What did Marsalis say that got you so peeved?

Oct 5, 2011 - Jazz will live, no matter what mass listens to. Good players still exists, ones that dont play academic stuff full of modals and scales pretending it to be soul, but will follow the old masters footsteps and play the good ol' jazz again. Thanks Freddie.

Jan 7, 2012 - When we look at popular music these days it's usually pretty simple when it comes to notes and rhythm. That's why it's catchy and people like it. It is truly a sad sight to see that those simple songs are more popular than musical masterpieces such as this song. It breaks my heart to see one of the best genres of music disappear with the times.

Mar 6, 2012 - - good music has never been played on the radio. There's plenty of amazing contemporary music, Jazz and otherwise. You've just gotta look for it.

Mar 19, 2012 - Listen to the sublime ,immortal Clifford Brown on Yesterdays a rare and wonderful talent gone but never to be forgotten R.I.P Freddie a tribute that does his memory justice
bubblegum1001000 mowi:
Apr 2, 2012 - @WelcomeToTheLab This song is for a trumpeter named Clifford Brown who died in a car accident in 1956. Obviously, Freddie Hubbard had /some kind/ of connection with Clifford Brown, becauce this song was made for him. I'm not sure if you were confused about why this song was named "I Remember Clifford", or if there was a spelling mistake you noticed that has been fixed.
bubblegum1001000 mowi:
Apr 2, 2012 - @WelcomeToTheLab Sorry, It wasn't Freddie Hubbard who wrote this, it was a jazz tenor saxophone player named Benny Golson. Turns out, he was in a band with Clifford Brown. Sorry, my mistake! ^_^'
