Feb 4, 2011 - If you are preparing this for painting, erasing isn't needed. The glass is not that shape and you should focus more on those details compared to sketching quickly. I noticed you gained more mistakes when trying to fix the sketch because you weren't looking at the detail anymore. Drawing out relative shapes for placement is good and I do the same.

Sep 21, 2011 - how long did it take you, cos when i start drawing i easily think that is not going well so basically i get distracted and thing this is not going anywhere

swmagic999 mowi:

Sep 21, 2011 - It does take time and focus, which are great qualities for any profession and hobby. Those come only from practice. And yes, I understand about distractions, that's common among artists because artists are usually thinking all over the map anyway--but consider that as a strength because they can see things no one else can. The best approach is to work Large to Small and Cycle around.

Oct 27, 2011 - Not to be braggy, but drawing runs in my family, my brother, sister and I have been drawing since we first talked (literally) and the way we sketch is by eye not by doing some random circle technique... Not saying its wrong or bad, im 14 btw and I draw photo realistic portraits :)) ( like I said not to be braggy)

Nov 18, 2011 - NICE! what's that eraser you're using

Nov 27, 2011 - This is really great. :) I'm just having a hard time understanding what all the terminology is. What do you mean by relate shapes, negative space, and whats the midline?

swmagic999 mowi:

Nov 27, 2011 - Relating shapes is pretty much what the video training is all about explaining these terms and why the "science" of art is so important. Negative spaces are your "holes" between objects which help you relate distances. The "midline" is the halfway point between top/bottom and left/right side--again, "seeing" where these are helps you make your perspective better. There are many of these terms, all important, all of which help you with your mechanics... Now, go get the course!

Dec 18, 2011 - well this is just a format and basic layout for a later drawing, sketching is used because you don't always have all your paint and supplies with you. you can sketch anywhere, that's the point of it.

Apr 6, 2012 - Just wondering, what kind of pencil do you suggest using for sketches? Will any normal art pencil do, and should it be a soft or hard lead?
