Oct 4, 2009 - Those are some good shots. I'm taking the Texas Eagle from Austin to FTW and then on Heartland Flyer to OKC this November. Looking forward to the trip.

Feb 10, 2010 - Thanks For Stopping By TrainsOnTheMove and Commenting and Rating Amtrak Heartland Flyer AMTK 90229 NPCU... I'm Glad That The Footage Could Be Of Help With Your HO Scale Verison Of The NPCU...

Feb 24, 2010 - Nice footage at 2:40 of the train going over you -- weren't you scared?? Just kidding, haha ;-) I've always fantasized about laying low down on the tracks and seeing if I'd "fit." BTW, I'd think a locomotive chassis/frame would be awfully heavy to push around and wasteful to convert into a non-powered "cabbage" car... Seems like they'd just design a special car for that purpose if that's what they needed. These are great videos you've got here, Rahim, I'm glad I stumbled onto your channel!

May 4, 2010 - Amtrak Unit #229 was apart of the first Order of F40PHs. It isn't a PHR Model. If you notice on the NPCU. You will see the Fuel Tank is mounted at the rear truck. The F40PHRs have the fuel tanks mounted behind the leading truck. And the Original F40 200-229 had smaller fuel tanks. Anyways. This particular unit spent a lot of time on the San Diegan (Pacific Surfliner) before they got the new Units and Cars.

Sep 24, 2010 - Same here I made #90229 in the phase 5 paint scheme. #90229 is my favorite. :)

Oct 17, 2010 - So many nights of flying through the Oklahoma countryside, in the old Sante Fe bi-levels, listening to that great horn. By the way does anyone know what happened to 90229? I haven't seen in on the flyer since early 2010.

Jan 17, 2011 - Sadly, the Santa Fe bi-levels are no longer in service on the Flyer, and neither is #90229. From last I heard at the OKC train show back in December (2010), #90229 has been sitting in the yard at Ft. Worth. Given that it's been over a year now since #90229 was in service, I'm afraid it looks like Amtrak has retired it from service. From what I understand, the days of the NPCU F40's are coming to an end on other Amtrak routes (like the Cascades route) as well.

Feb 19, 2011 - @theup3985: I knew that the bilevels had been replaced about three years back, but thats sad to hear about the cabbages/f40s. Lots of childhood memories with those.
